Halitosis

With proper care, Halitosis is a treatable condition. During your comprehensive examine, Dr. Paulson or Dr. Holman will carefully examine your mouth, teeth, and gums to check for any signs of dysfunction. It is important to identify the cause of your halitosis to determine which treatment will provide the best results. Halitosis can be caused by:

  • Tooth Decay: Plaque that is not removed from the teeth can result in tooth decay. Tooth decay breaks down the tooth enamel over time and can cause tooth sensitivity, toothache, halitosis, and even tooth loss.
  • Gum Disease: Gum disease is the inflammation of gum tissue. The infected tissue can cause the gums to bleed, shifting teeth, tooth sensitivity, toothaches, and halitosis. It is important to treat gum disease as soon as possible to avoid tooth loss or other complex dental issues. We do offer a range of periodontal therapy services and oral hygiene products to help improve your smile.
  • Dry Mouth: Dry mouth occurs when there is a lack of saliva in the mouth. Dry mouth can be caused by smoking, medication, stress or illness. When the mouth isn’t producing the appropriate about of saliva, it leaves the teeth more prone to gum disease, tooth decay, and halitosis. General dentists Dr. Paulson and Dr. Holman may work with your primary care physician to determine the cause of your dry mouth. If your dry mouth is a result of a dental condition, we offer a range of treatment to help improve your condition.
