The Essentials
What it is.
If dental visits make you anxious, you’re in good company — and you have options. Sedation dentistry lets the doctor provide treatment safely and comfortably while you feel deeply relaxed.
Two mild options cover most needs. Nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) flows through a small nose mask, calms anxiety, and wears off completely by the time you leave. Oral anxiolysis is a pill taken before your visit: you remain awake and breathing on your own, but profoundly relaxed — ideal for longer procedures or stronger anxiety.

Is This You?
Sound familiar?
- You’ve postponed care because of anxiety
- A strong gag reflex makes treatment difficult
- You need a longer procedure and want it to feel short
- Numbing has been difficult for you in the past
The Process
What to expect.
- Talk it through
A conversation about your anxiety, health history, and the visit ahead — then we choose the right option together.
- The visit
You’re monitored throughout and kept comfortable; most patients describe the appointment as “over before it started.”
- Afterward
Nitrous clears immediately — you can drive yourself home. Oral sedation needs a ride and an easy afternoon.

Questions, answered.
Will I be unconscious?
No — these are mild options. You’re awake, responsive, and relaxed; many patients simply stop caring that they’re at the dentist.
Is it safe?
Yes, with proper screening and monitoring — that’s exactly what the consultation is for.
Can I drive home?
After nitrous, yes. After oral sedation, plan for a driver.
